Centrifugal Juicers vs Cold Press Juicers J80 & J100A professional opinion direct from the kitchen

We see them in operation daily and working in the catering service industry means that we get feedback directly from the people who use the machines every day. We’ll be completely biased here, but we think centrifugal juicers are faster, more robust and easier to clean that any masticating machine currently on the market.

What is a Cold Press Juicer?

Basically, ‘Cold press’ is the latest industry buzz-word. The assumption is that it provides a more ‘nutritional juice’ because there is no heating of the juice during the extraction process. This is basically clever marketing. As far as we are aware there is no evidence anywhere to indicate that centrifugal juicers produce any more heat than masticating machines.

The potential level of heat produced is so minimal that it’s not even measured in the Robot Coupe Juicers Tech Spec page.  There’s certainly no affect on the quality of juice.

One professional source stated:

“Centrifugal juicers will not heat the juice any more than the cold press type”

When you hear about ‘cold press juicers‘ or ‘slow juicers‘ this is usually referring to the masticating (or grinding) juicer. These machines squeeze the fruit or vegetable by using a grinding screw. In general these are great for use at home but they are considered far too slow for professional kitchen use.

How do Centrifugal juicers work?

Centrifugal juicers work by grating the fruit using a specialist grating disc. This is positioned in the ‘centrifugal juice basket’. The juice is then passed through a ‘sieve filter’ and the centrifugal force spins the juice off into the filter basket. The unwanted fruit pulp is forced out into the waste container simultaneously. This method is much quicker and produces minimal waste.
